Scan
Studio 12, Gertrude Contemporary, 1996

The viewer’s encounter becomes the subject of a work that is completed in the moment of its contemplation by the viewer. My underlying intention in this work was to slow the viewing moment. Only by remaining stationary could the viewer see through the reflective surface, Scan utilised light responsive mirrored film and lighting activated through movement. The virtual and actual views of the architecture of the room intersected and were layered. Scan was the sketch for the Visible and the Invisible and the performative response from viewers of the work has informed subsequent projects.
